About

The Stone Space is an independent not-for-profit gallery in Leytonstone that opened in October 2011 and occupies part of the ground floor of the Leytonstone Library building. It grew from the Leytonstone Arts Trail, an annual festival of visual art where artists display their work in a variety of venues around Leytonstone.

The Stone Space hosts a varied programme of exhibitions, not limited to a specific type of art, medium or group of artists and aims to champion artistic enquiry, recognise ability and give a platform to art that provokes thought and debate. It strives to support emerging artists.

Exhibitions are held for a month and the gallery’s regular and ever popular private view evenings, that usually take place at the start of each exhibition, provide an important opportunity for social contact and networking amongst visitors, members of the local community and all involved with the gallery.

The gallery receives very little funding. Its activities are mainly self-funded by exhibitors and via commission on any works sold. The gallery is staffed by volunteers and is led by a group of volunteer organisers who plan the exhibition programme and oversee the management of the gallery. New volunteers are always welcome, find out how you could take part here.
