‘Hiraeth Street’ brings together a collection of works by East London artist and printer Aaron Williams, exploring nostalgia, identity and the ways we construct and remember the places that shape us. The title takes its name from the Welsh word ‘hiraeth’, describing a longing and melancholy for a time or place that may or may not have existed. For Aaron, it reflects the split between growing up in London and his childhood in North Wales, and the way memory continues to reshape itself. The exhibition brings together drawing, silkscreen printing, lettering and painting from several distinct projects. Life drawing is a recurring thread, with Aaron’s images of the figure providing an antidote to his graphic design background. ‘Hiraeth Street’ is an imagined place where memory, identity and time are continually rewritten.
