‘Works on Paper’ features a series of recent black and white oil paintings on paper by Nicholas Middleton. These originated during the first summer of the pandemic, when the strictest restrictions were in force. Unable to travel, many of the paintings in the series were based on Middleton’s own photographs made on previous trips abroad, their intimate size and format, being made on paper with limited means, partly dictated by conditions at the time: they are an invitation to the viewer to explore corners of distant cities at one remove.

Nicholas Middleton is an artist working in painting, photography, and film, based in London.
