Stemming from new connections made whilst working in an engineering workshop, Emily Motto’s TEMPLATES is an assemblage of forms that share similar material tendencies to soften into new shapes, independent of their initial outlines.
Working between fragile and resilient materials – cardboard, steel, fabric, aluminium, paper fragments and digitally printed surfaces stand in a characterful gathering. Formal relationships and material qualities resonate with human feeling.
Motto is working with ways sculpture can communicate with flattened elements and framed ‘fronts’ – using the window itself as a template to hold delicate balances and painterly harmonies in place.
