Baroquerie

Philip Williams

29 April – 23 May 2021

Baroquerie is an exhibition of paintings and 3Dimensional works that explores our continuing affinity for the Baroque. Whilst the Baroque era is often portrayed as decadent and indulgent and Baroque art and architecture as often signifying status and authority to contemporary audiences, its exuberance and its opposition to strict Classical rules ensures that it continues to have an appeal and relevance today.  The work for this exhibition is intended to capture this dichotomy by combining contemporary materials, techniques and visual languages with the familiar imagery originating in the Baroque.

Please note: The gallery will be open to visitors from Saturday 1st May with Covid safety measures in place. Gallery staff will admit one household at a time and we would ask that visitors wear masks and maintain social distancing during their visit.
